Jason Lee Elementary School holding a diaper drive

RICHLAND, WA. -- Jason Lee Elementary School in Richland is reaching out in a new way this year.

They've been collecting diapers for the Tri-City Diaper Bank. So far, students and their families have brought in nearly 14,000 diapers, and now they're opening the drive to the community.

What makes this drive different from ones they've done in the past though, is the cause that sometimes gets over looked.

Brian Neil, the school's councilor and one of the drive's coordinators, said "there is a need out there that goes beyond just food and when it comes to the diapers, food stamps don't purchase diapers, so that's a need that's really been lacking in the Tri-Cities."

The School is accepting donations daily from 8 am to 4 PM at their front office. The drive is open to the public now through February 14th.

Jason Lee Elementary is located at 1750 McMurray Street, Richland, WA 99354.
