KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Drivers might notice new artwork inside of the roundabout on Leslie Road and Clearwater Ave.
Three steel grass bunches were installed in the roundabout Wednesday afternoon, and weigh about 3,000 pounds each. The artwork was commissioned by both the cities of Kennewick and Richland, because the roundabout is right on the border of the two cities.
The sculptor, Joseph Rastovich, came up with the design with his family. "We made these bunch grass sculptures to symbolize the flora of our natural area around here," said Rastovich.
It took about five months and just over $30,000 to build the 22 foot tall structures. The artwork was commissioned by the cities to save money in future landscaping costs.
