ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- An update for on the work at the new county jail in Kittitas County. The Sheriff says work is going well.
They expect to finish construction on the new 118 bed facility by the beginning of July. It's being built in the courtyard of the Kittitas County Courthouse.
Sheriff Gene Dana says the new facility will save the county $400,000-$500,000 a year in other costs.
"We're still sending inmates to three or four other counties because we're overcrowded. And we'll be able to do away with doing that," said Sheriff Dana.
The Sheriff's Office has hired three corrections officers to staff the new jail, but Dana says they're looking for more.
