Kamiakin High School leads the state

Posted: Updated:

Kamiakin High School in Kennewick has more people certified in Microsoft Office word than any other school in the state.

103 students and 3 Kamiakin staff are MOS certified.

The students threw a pizza party today to celebrate.

Teachers say training students in Microsoft office is part of a statewide goal of boosting science, technology, engineering and math education.

"Organize your writing better and you can insert hyperlinks so you can get Internet access and stuff like that," says Freshman Miquette Oren.

"I want to be a doctor so you can use Microsoft Office to organize. And you can have your patient's name and everything about them right there in front of you," says Senior Abby Blanchard.

Teachers say students are more employable and globally competitive after becoming certified.
