YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Polar Plunge is tomorrow. People will jump into the pond in Sarg Hubbard Park to raise money for the Special Olympics.
When Aaron Hilf jumped in a few weeks ago to convince more people to join in, only forty people had signed up. That's about half the attendance from last year. 125 are now registered.
The leap in attendance was a huge relief for the Yakima Police Department, who organized the event.
"Certainly was a concern of ours, we... you know, we want this event to be successful, we want to benefit our Special Olympic athletes, and the only way we do that is to have the community come out and support us," says Lieutenant Mike Merryman.
While the online registration is now closed, you can still sign up at the event tomorrow morning. It's happening in Sarg Hubbard Park at ten near the pond.
