MATTAWA, Wash. -- The Grant County Coroner has released the name of a pregnant woman shot and killed Saturday in Mattawa. The coroner says 28-year-old Esperanza Vicente-Mestizo died from gunshot wounds to the torso. Vicente-Mestizo was 7-months pregnant. She was taken to a hospital in Othello where she and the unborn boy also died.

Grant County Sheriff's Deputies say she was unloading groceries from her car when she was shot by someone outside of her apartment on the 800 block of 3rd Place in Mattawa. Investigators say she was shot by someone on foot. It was not a case of domestic violence, because her husband or boyfriend was inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Chief Deputy Ryan Rectenwald said Tuesday the woman had no significant history of contact with police. He says there's nothing to indicate drugs or gangs were involved. Rectenwald says it is his personal opinion that it was not random.
