Hours being slashed at clerk's office counter

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's budget problems have forced the City Clerk's Office to reduce the hours of operation at their customer service counter in City Hall.
As of March 1st they will be losing an employee at the office, so to make up for it the counter will only be open Monday-Thursday from 2 to 5pm.
The deputy city clerk says it's not a permanent change. They will re-hire the lost position next year with another new budget.

"We're just trying to make the most of the situation of reducing our hours to the window and with the reduction of force of 25% of our force, trying to accommodate that with the same work load," said Deputy City Clerk, Sonya Claar Tee.

Some services that were previously handled by the Clerk's Office will be moved. Things like providing general information and directions to people will now happen at the Utility Office.
