Weekend snowfall benefits area ski resorts

Posted: Updated:

WHITE PASS, Wash. -- Several inches of new snow over the holiday weekend helped boost business for area ski resorts.

White Pass Ski Resort and Ski Bluewood say they had more than 20-inches of snowfall over the last three days.

White pass workers tell us they saw about 9,000 people on the mountain throughout the weekend. Ski Bluewood saw about 2,000 people for the weekend, according to general manager Travis Stephenson.

"So far this season we had 333-inches of snowfall, which is on track to be above average," White Pass Ski Resort spokesperson Kathleen Goyette said.

Both ski resorts saw a jump in attendance this time of year than last year's holiday weekend.

As for the season, Goyette says they're numbers are slightly down. "We're down about 7-percent over last year. Which we attribute to the rain and some of the closures we had during the Christmas holidays," Goyette explained.

"January to January we're actually way up this year, about 34-percent up from last January," Goyette explained. "Again it's all weather related. when the conditions are good, the visitor-ship is good."

Both ski resorts expect to see even more snowfall this week.
