YAKIMA, Wash.-- Representative Doc Hastings visited VFW Post 379 in Yakima Wednesday. He wanted to learn more about what it offers for veterans and tour the building.
It's his first time in the new post since it burned down in 2010, after a rat chewed through a cord and caught on fire. It reopened a few months ago. Hastings says the rebuilding project is a bittersweet success story.
"Sometimes these... these sort of tragedies turn into positive things. I'm not gonna put words into their mouths but lot of times that happens and this may be one of those cases," Hastings says.
The congressman says VFW posts are very important, especially with so many new veterans coming home from recent wars.
