YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima County Gang Assessment is about a month away from being finished.
County Commissioner Kevin Bouchey says the Gang Commission was shown preliminary findings Tuesday at their meeting in Toppenish.
He says the county wide assessment was sparked after the City of Yakima started their Gang Free Initiative, but he hopes this one will be able to help smaller communities around the Yakima Valley fight their gang problems.
"Hopefully this information will help really focus those efforts, really help pinpoint what some of the causes, as well as how some of those issues can be stemmed," said Yakima County Commissioner Kevin Bouchey.
Bouchey says the assessment will also help the county identify communities that need additional help.
The official assessment will be presented at the next meeting in Selah on March 20th.
