KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Lots of preparation goes into planning for a big visit like the Newt Gingrich rally and Kennewick police were ready.
According to KPD more than 12 officers from the department and others from neighboring departments were working the event.
Thursday's rally attracted about 600 people to the Kennewick Red Lion, and Kennewick police started laying out details for security at least a week before the former house speaker came to town.
"We have officers that are specifically trained to do dignitary protection in addition we bring our swat unit in here in case we have to do a quick exit for the speaker," explains Sergeant Ken Lattin.
