Body found near the Yakima River

BENTON CITY, Wash.-- The body of a Benton City man was found dead on the side of the Yakima River this morning after a nearly six hour long search.

A woman called the Benton County Sheriff's office after a seventy-three year old man knocked on her door at 6 a.m. in the area around the end of Demoss Road. She said he seemed disoriented and didn't know where he was.

It is believed the man had dementia. Deputies began knocking door-to-door looking for any information on the man's whereabouts. They sent a plane up to look for him from the air and a boat to search along the river. Neighbors came together to join in the efforts to find the man.

At around 11:45 a.m. a sheriff's boat spotted the body on the bank of the river. It is uncertain if the man drowned or died of other ailments. We know the name of the man but aren't releasing it until all the family members have been notified.
