SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Sunnyside Community Hospital has cut four nursing support positions. This comes after nine jobs were lost earlier this year.
The hospital is dealing with a $5-million dollar decrease in state and federal funding, according to hospital spokesperson Tom Lathen.
Employees have already taken a 4.5 percent pay cut to help with the lack of funding.
Hospitals across the state are waiting to see if there will be a vote to take away cost-based reimbursement for all critical access hospitals.
"Our number one priority is taking care of patients and when you lose resources, whether they be financial or physical or staff, it hurts your ability to respond in the way you want to respond," Lathen said.
If the legislature votes to take away reimbursements, Lathen says the financial impact will be dramatic with even more lay-offs.
There are approximately 400 employees who work for the hospital.
