Construction work is on schedule for Yakima hospice

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Construction work continues on the new hospice care facility in Yakima.

Project leaders say they're on schedule with phase one of Cottage in the Meadow, which includes 12-private patient rooms.

The new facility will serve patients from Yakima, Kittitas and the Lower Valley Hospice centers.

The Memorial Foundation is in charge of raising funds for the project.

Foundation board member Dr. Timothy Melhorn says they're on budget, but the project still needs to raise more money.

"Funding for phase one is about $5.5-million, and we are about 450,000 short of the goal, currently," Dr. Melhorn explained. "So we are still actively fundraising."

A second phase to add eight more rooms will begin following the completion of the initial phase, according to Melhorn.

Cottage in the Meadow is expected to open in July.
