UNION GAP, Wash.-- A car crash on I-82 in Union Gap ends with a woman swimming for her life in a river. It happened near Exit 38 just before five Wednesday morning.
The Washington State Patrol says the woman lost control of the car and crashed it into the side of the bridge. When she got out the woman jumped over the guardrail to avoid traffic and fell into the river. She managed to swim to shore and wait until paramedics arrived.
Troopers say the whole thing could easily have been avoided.
"It is so slick... The speed limits are basically for ideal conditions and when we have conditions like this it's just imperative for people to slow... Slow way down," says Trooper Todd Haddorff.
The woman was treated for minor bruises at Yakima Regional Hospital.
