Selah couple welcomes Leap Year baby

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Selah couple celebrated the birth of their sixth child and Yakima's first Leap Year baby, early Wednesday morning.

Weighing in an eight pounds and ten ounces, baby Jace Ashton Karcz was born at 1:15 a.m. at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

His parents Jon Karcz and Tonya Pimentel say it was an easy labor.

With their son's next birthday not coming until 2016, the couple says they'll celebrate on February 28th, until then.

"We kind of joke that we'll save on birthday presents because we only have to have a party every four years. And what we'd say? He'll be 65 before he can drive," Jace's mother explained.

The couple have four other boys and one daughter.

Three more babies were born at Memorial on Wednesday, according to hospital spokesperson Lori Aoki.

Since 2000, the hospital has had 17 babies born on leap years, prior to 2012.
