Possible bowling teams for Richland and Hanford high schools

Posted: Updated:

Richland and Hanford high schools may be getting girls bowling teams. The new sports program could potentially replace girls gymnastics.

Richland school district looked into the numbers and found that bowling would draw more students to participate than gymnastics and cost thousands of dollars less.

Currently the gymnastics team has only three members. Bowling is estimated to draw as many as eighty students.

Richland school district spokesperson Steve Aagaard told kndu a decision could be coming soon.

"No decision's been made yet but the school board's looking at the information and will be coming to a determination maybe in the next few weeks about whether to make that switch to girls bowling," said steve aagaard.

The success of other local schools bowling teams is encouragement that this program could do well. Richland high schools athletic directors have been discussing the possibility of a girls bowling team for a few years.

The proposed program will be presented to the richland school board on the thirteenth of this month.
