KENNEWICK, Wash. -- This week is National School Breakfast Week, and the Kennewick School District is making sure their students can eat the most important meal of the day.

They teamed up with Sodexo, who is providing a "no charge breakfast" to KSD students at all the elementary, middle and high schools in the district.

Students are given a hot and healthy meal every morning at school this week for free, to let them focus on school rather than on an empty stomach.

Sam Shick, the Nutrition Services Director for KSD, told us, "a lot of studies have shown that kids learn a lot better, they're more attentive in school, they don't have as many attendance problems if they have breakfast. So, breakfast is extremely important."

The school served around 3,700 breakfasts in one morning this week, which is about 800 more than they do on a regular, daily basis.

The district hopes after this week students will understand the importance of eating breakfast, and will continue to utilize their school's breakfast opportunities.
