Special Session Likely for WA Legislature

Posted: Updated:

Olympia, Wash. - It appears that Washington's legislature will need extra time to pass a state budget. The 60-day session officially ends Thursday, but budget negotiators are still a long way from finding a deal.

On Wednesday, Governor Chris Gregoire acknowledged that a special session will be needed to pass the state's budget, but she's urging lawmakers to reach an agreement before midnight Thursday.

Gregoire says it's logistically and procedurally impossible to pass a budget before the regular session ends Thursday, but she wants a plan in place before she officially calls for a special session.
