YAKIMA, Wash.-- People for People in Yakima rolled out a new food truck this week for their senior home delivery program.
They bought the vehicle with a $30,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation. It serves over 600 meals a week to seniors across the county.
It gets better gas mileage than the previous truck, saving more money for meals. With the organization's state and federal funding decreasing, every cent counts.
"Overall, across the state and especially in Yakima where we have a lot of low income seniors that are in need of services... It's been a really tough time," says CEO Madelyn Carlson.
Carlson says they don't have the budget to serve all of the needs around Yakima. She says the organization relies mostly on volunteers to keep programs going.
