KENNEWICK, Wash. - KGH has acquired some new equipment, that basically combines CT (computed tomography) and PET (positron emission tomography- not an animal) technologies into one scanner.

The PET/CT is a powerful imaging approach that can help doctors make more accurate evaluations when determining the course of treatment for patients, ultimately lowering the cost of care. PET/CT imaging has been shown to provide exceptionally detailed images for various types of cancers, cardiac disease and brain function. KGH is only the second hospital in the area to provide PET/CT service.

Because of the PET/CT's ability to read metabolic activity within the body, metabolic "hot spots" and functional abnormalities can reveal disease states before structural damage is evident.
