OLYMPIA, Wash.-Governor Chris Gregoire hopes a meeting Thursday morning with the Legislature's key budget writers will break an impasse between her and legislative leaders.
During the special session that began Monday, the legislature hopes to close a $500 million budget gap.
Gregoire says Democratic and Republican leaders are at a stalemate: Republicans want to skip about $130 million in pension payments and Democrats want to delay a $330 million payment to school districts by one day.
Up until now, only legislative leaders were meeting with the governor. Gregoire said she wants to talk with the budget writers now about how to make progress on getting a supplemental budget passed.
