University of Portland students help build houses in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash.-- 17 students from the University of Portland are spending their spring break building homes in Yakima.
It's part of Portland's Collegiate Challenge, which gives students experience in community service and leadership. They've teamed up with "Habitat for Humanity" to work on three houses for families in need. Some students told us the experience gives them a new outlook on volunteering.
"It's rewarding to see how many walls we've put up and to know that we actually will make a difference to someone's life," says Volunteer Adrienne Suner
"It's really interesting to branch out a little bit and see what's going on in the rest of the world... And it's really interesting to know we can help other places too," says Volunteer Rebecca Mion.
The students say they chose the Yakima location because it was most in need of volunteers.
