KENNEWICK, Wash.-The congressman representing the Tri-Cities and the Yakima Valley says the best way to beat the Middle East oil cartel is to out-drill it.
Speaking to seniors at Kennewick High School Friday, Doc Hastings supported opening the Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which Hastings says could cut U.S. dependence on foreign oil by ten billion barrels.
"President Clinton vetoed ANWR Production. That was in 1996. If you took that ten-year life cycle, we'd be pumping part of that ten billion right now if he had not vetoed it."
Hastings chairs the Natural Resources Committee, which deals with what happens to public lands, such as the Alaskan arctic territory.
