Health experts discuss PTSD in regards to Afghanistan killings

Posted: Updated:

From the AP:

Mental health experts say the soldier suspected of murdering Afghanistan civilians could have post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.

Harvard University psychiatrist Dr. Roger Pitman says that a report that the suspect saw a fellow soldier's leg blown off a day before the killings raises the possibility that this event triggered a psychological crisis.

The experts have no direct knowledge of the soldier's case but say that PTSD is common after injuries like the concussion and loss of part of a foot that the soldier reportedly suffered.

The information about the soldier's injuries came from a Seattle lawyer representing him.
