KENNEWICK, Wash. - Professional artists from around the Tri-Cities went to Highland Middle School in Kennewick today.

The PTO put together a day of art appreciation so students could experience and learn about the art in their community.

Ten volunteer artists gave presentations to classes to teach about their own type of visual art, and students got to paint tiles that will be part of a new mural at the school.

Alyssa St. Hilaire, the principal at Highlands Middle School, said, "in our classes we are so focused on reading and math all the time that we want to make sure we had an opportunity to see art is all around us and it's in our lives every day.

If you'd like to be a part of the artwork, tonight from 5 to 8, Highland Middle School is opening to the public.

For $5 you can buy and paint a tile, that you can either keep, or give to the school to be put in their mural.

All proceeds of the evening of art will go to the PTO to support future student opportunities.
