YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Area Arboretum is getting ready for the spring season.
Dozens of volunteers were out in the park Saturday, pulling weeds, planting flowers, and pruning plants.
The arboretum only has one full time groundskeeper, and one part time assistant to cover the 46 acres of land.
Without the help of volunteers, the parks co-executive director says cleaning up after winter would be impossible.
"An event to get volunteers to come down to the arboretum and help us with all our spring cleanup. There's a lot to do in the spring and we found that people love to volunteer and they love to work together as a group," said Jheri Ketcham with the Yakima Area Arboretum.
Volunteers Saturday say they were happy to get out and help because they also take advantage of the park.
