Propane fire injures one man; closes highway lane down
EAST VALLEY, Wash.-- A fire at All American Propane in East Valley sent one man to the hospital and closed down the westbound lane of State Route 24 today.
Firefighters say it started around 8:30 this morning when workers were doing maintenance on a propane tank. The tank caught fire, and the flames spread across the building. Firefighters blocked off nearby roads including State Route 24 and managed to get the blaze under control. Crews say they don't see situations like this every day.
"You may have a propane tank at a barbecue or a warehouse fire or something but to have numerous tanks like this is... Yeah it's kinda unusual," says Gleed Fire Chief Jim Kohl.
One man was burned in the fire and taken to the hospital by his co-workers, no word on his condition. Firefighters are still investigating the cause.
