Americans ready for first round battle with Everett
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Tri-City Americans are gearing up for their first round playoff matchup with the Everett Silvertips. Games one and two are this Friday and Saturday inside the Toyota Center.
The Ams faced their U.S. Division rival eight times this season and won six of those matchups. The last time the Ams and Silvertips met in the playoffs was in 2009, with Tri-City winning the series 4-1. This time the Ams expect a much closer series.
"Well they have a great goalie, their defense is really great and they have guys that can score. They play really good defense, and we think we're a defensive team so we think the games are going to be low scoring. They're not going to give us a lot of opportunities so we have to bury our chances," said Adam Hughesman, Americans forward.
"They work hard. They transition well, and they have a good defense back there. They're good with the puck, and they're going to hit us. They're going to be a physical team, and we have to match that when they come at us. We have to hit back," captain Mason Wilgosh said.
