Occupy Portland protests Hanford clean-up

RICHLAND, Wash.-- Occupy Portland came to the Tri-Cities today to protest Hanford clean-up.

They say it's a threat to people in the Northwest and that it's causing nuclear waste to contaminate our water. They call it another Fukushima in our own backyard. The protest organizer, Miriam German, said they're just sharing the truth.

"Today we're bring the truth out. We're bringing speakers here to bring the truth to the community about Hanford so we can all come together to clean up Hanford in a safe way," said German.

An opposing group showed up at the event to share information about Hanford and what they call misperceptions by Occupy Portland. Gerald Woodcock of the American Nuclear Society, said that Occupy Portland's statements were not the truth.

"Outrageous comments have been made about Hanford by the Portland group. Almost everything that they've said is almost patently false and easily refutable," said Woodcock.

Occupy Portland wants independent oversight of Hanford Clean-up.
