SPOKANE, Wash. -

About 56,000 people participated in last year's Bloomsday Run in Spokane. Race organizers said Wednesday they, unfortunately, don't expect that many runners this year.

Race director Don Kardong said numbers are running lower than they did at the same time last year. They have about 2,000 fewer runners signed up than they did in the week before the race in 2011.

Race participation has been over the 50,000 mark since 2010.
