Fish released for Kid's Fishing Day events

KENNEWICK, Wash.—About 8,000 fish were released Thursday at the Family Fishing Pond at Columbia Park in Kennewick.

It's all in preparation for the 3rd annual "Special Needs Fishing Event" on Friday and the 15th annual "Kids Fishing Day" on Saturday.  More than 1,400 kids are registered.  Organizers say there is a new surprise for the kids.

"We're tagging quite a few of the fish this year so if you catch them during the events, don't come to me next week if you catch one, there are special prizes for those and we've never done that before," says Ken Johanning, Kids Outdoor Experience President.

The "Special Needs Fishing Event" is Friday from 4pm to 7pm.  The "Kids Fishing Day" is Saturday from 8am to 3pm.  There are still openings for Saturday.  You can register Thursday or Friday at the pond or arrive early Saturday.

You do not need a fishing license to participate.
