YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Yakima Social Media Coffee Club is holding the Rod's House Jazz B-Q event on Sunday, at Spring Creek Homestead in Union Gap.

Rod's House is a nonprofit organization in Yakima that helps around 700 homeless teenagers a year in Yakima County.

"We offer them a place to come and eat a meal, get new clothing, shower, do their laundry. All of the things that they don't have access to on the streets," explained operations coordinator Steve Bernard, with Rod's House.

Named for Rod Bryant, Rod's House opened in 2009.

Bernard says between 50 and 70 kids walk through their doors on a daily basis.

"Our range of ages is from 14 to 21. Our general population is in the 17 to 20-year-old range. That's where the majority of our kids are," Bernard said.

He and his staff say they spend a lot of time with each kid.

"It's not unusual for someone to call us 'street mom' or 'street dad'... one thing that, that's just their family," Bernard explained.

The Coffee Club is sponsoring Sunday's Jazz B-Q event.

"Steve Bernard has come to our Coffee Club, and he's explained to us because to be honest, I didn't event know the full extent of what they do. So we're just excited to be a part of it," said event planner Jan Hutchinson, Co-Owner/CEO at Meadowbrook Event Management & Consulting.

The Yakima Valley Social Media Coffee Club was formed about a year ago and founded by Lorna Gifford.

"We've had so much support from the group, from the Coffee Club. We have so many sponsors that have donated gifts for our raffle," Gifford said.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to help Rod's House.

"A central part of what we do here is by believing in our kids, we're able to set them up for success and not failure," Bernard explained.

Bernard says it costs approximately $5,000 per month, to operate and run the organization.

Jazz B-Q is Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Spring Creek Homestead, located at 3213 Tacoma Street in Union Gap.

Tickets are $25 per person, and can be purchased at Kana Winery in downtown Yakima or at the event. Kids ten and under are free.
