SUNNYSIDE, Wash -- Dozens of little ones hit the hardwood in Sunday's youth basketball championship games, at the Sunnyside Community Center.
It was kids teams versus the "Guns and Hoses" team, made up of Sunnyside police officers and firefighters.
This is the first year for the championship games through Sunnyside's Promise basketball program.
The City team will play one quarter each against four teams that are champions in their age brackets.
More than 400 kids and 60 volunteers participated in this year's event.
"Most of my friends like to play basketball. I like this activity, and it's fun to play," said 11-year-old Julio Geronimo, whose team played on Sunday.
Organizers plan to hold more championship games, including for baseball this summer. They also plan to hold another basketball tournament, next year.
