Local businesses save summer movie series

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A popular outdoor movie series put on by Yakima Parks and Recreation was on the verge of being canceled this year because of budget problems.

But thanks to three local businesses, The Summer Cinema Series will start up in July.

Senske Lawn and Tree Care, Elliot Insurance Service, and Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center each donated $600 dollars to the program.

That will cover three of the five movies this year.

"This is an extremely popular program. Our summer evenings are so cool and so wonderful that lots of people come out, they bring a blanket, or lawn chairs and sit and watch the movie here at Gilbert Park," said Ken Wilkinson, Parks and Recreation manager.

Wilkinson says they're still looking for two more sponsors to cover the rest of the viewing parties. Opening night for the series will be July 15th at Gilbert Park.
