RICHLAND, Wash.-- An updated final tally for the KNDU Bechtel URS Feeding Families Food Drive benefiting Second Harvest.
Thanks to a big contribution from Fred Meyer, the final numbers are very high this year. The grand total added up to more than $109,000. Fred Meyer gave about $25,000 through their customer change collection boxes and employee gifts. Chris Meagher, store director of the Richland Fred Meyer, says customers were happy to participate.
"They see the coin boxes and the different changes that we do through out the year. They give back so that they can know it comes back the community and we tell them and celebrate the successes that we do," says Meagher.
Fred Meyer offered to match the first $25,000 raised through the food drive and with the generous support from the community, the final tally far surpassed that number.
The coin boxes are located at the cash registers at Fred Meyer stores and will continue to benefit local charities.
