SPOKANE, Wash. -
The Spokane area is awash in golfers – even more so than usual. In addition to the regulars who pack area courses rain or shine, this week the largest city in Eastern Washington is hosting the high school state tournaments.
The boys teed off at Indian Canyon Golf Course Tuesday morning. The girls began bright and early at Esmeralda Golf Course. The 4A boys are at Hangman Valley, while the 4A girls are at MeadowWood. Round two will be Wednesday morning at all courses.
Having the state tournament in Spokane is a big benefit to the community.
"I think it's huge for Spokane because it certainly brings a lot of people into town, it isn't just the 3A boys at Indian Canyon, they're using a lot of courses in Spokane," said Gary Lindeblad, the pro at Indian Canyon.
And why not Spokane?
"Spokane is such a great golf town," said Lindeblad. "To bring all these kids here, and their parents, to see what it's like is giant for this city."
