WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Walla Walla High School softball has the chance to do something no Wa-Hi team ever did - repeat as state champions.
Friday the Blue Devils play Central Kitsap in the first round of the 4A State Tournament. After two straight third place finishes, Walla Walla broke through for its first state title last season. The Blue Devils say they are ready to defend their crown.
"The kids believe in themselves, they believe they can get there and they believe they can compete with anybody. And if anything, that experience of just having competed and knowing that they can do it is really going to help them," said Jerry Humphreys, in his 12th year as Walla Walla head coach.
"It's a feeling that you'll never experience - if you don't it's just incredible. And so we all looked at each other after the game and were like we want round two. And so we've been waiting for that day, for this weekend, and it's finally here," said senior Alyson Ambler, who will play next year for the University of Connecticut.
