Special Olympics Track Meet held at West Valley High School
YAKIMA, Wash.-- Special education students from eight schools in our area competed in a Special Olympics track meet at West Valley High School today.
Events included a hundred meter dash and a relay race. West Valley's Special Olympics organizers say they wanted to have a meet closer to home. They say they often had to as far away as the Tri-Cities or Spokane to compete.
"We just wanted a chance for these athletes to represent their school to practice, be on a team, work on team type of skills and just get to be West Valley Rams or Ike Cadets or whatever school their from," says Organizer Lucas Jaeger.
West Valley says they hope to make the event a yearly tradition. They say more school districts like Ellensburg are interested in competing next year.
