Richland high school to have child care on campus

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash., -- Teen mothers at Richland's River's Edge High School will be able to bring their children to school next fall.

The school board approved a plan Wednesday to work with the Boys and Girls Club to open a child care center in a portable building on the campus.

School Board President Richard Jansons says that providing child care to teen mothers will improve their graduation rates. Grants and donations are paying for the child care center.

River's Edge is an alternative school with about 200 students. About 20 are parents.
