City of Yakima holds dedication for Lincoln Avenue underpass
YAKIMA, Wash.-- The City of Yakima held a dedication ceremony for the Lincoln Avenue underpass today.
The event included speeches from mayor Micah Cawley and planners who worked on the project.
City crews opened the road earlier this month after nearly two years of construction.
A delay last summer cost the city millions of dollars and forced them to divert money from a similar planned underpass on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
The city says it's looking for grants to replace that money.
"The thing about these types of major projects, once you take federal money, state money, a lot of different partners... You have to go through with it so it's just kinda pushing through to get it done in a timely matter," says Mayor Cawley.
Cawley says the city likely won't start work on the next underpass for a few years.
