Yakima Airport faces $90,000 budget shortfall this year

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Airport faces a shortfall of nearly $90,000 in its budget this year.

The airport says much of the cost comes from two companies who leased space at the airport but didn't pay their bills.

The airport recently won lawsuits against both tenants but is still dealing with losses because they don't have a tenant to lease that space.

Board members say they'll likely defer a loan to the county for a year while they look for new tenants to bring in more money.

"I think that... With the new things that are happening I feel quite confident that we'll be able to get ourselves back on our feet," says Airport Board Chairman Bill Wheeler.

Wheeler says the airport is also looking at selling some land it no longer needs to local developers.
