Blind children's book author struck in crosswalk

SALEM, Ore. The president of the Willamette chapter of the American Council of the Blind of Oregon remains in critical condition after being struck in a crosswalk.

Police say the driver was drunk.

John Dashney, 70, is a children's book author. He lives a few blocks from where he was hit.

The woman, 58, from Salem, was jailed on drunken driving and assault charges.
