League of Women Voters host meeting on redistricting
YAKIMA, Wash.-- Getting voters up to speed on all the redistricting changes was the goal of today's League of Women Voters forum in Yakima.
The meeting included a presentation from Former Senator Slade Gorton, who was also part of the redistricting commission. Gorton talked about how and why the divisions were made.
For the league, it's about making sure people are informed about the political process.
"This is one of these situations that affects voting and where people vote and for whom they vote and we're here to encourage people to learn more about the political process," says Jackie Hertel with the League of Women Voters.
Yakima County Auditor Corky Mattingly and County Elections Supervisor Kathy Fisher also gave presentations.
They talked about what the county is doing to get the word out about the changes.
