KENNEWICK, Wash. - A rattlesnake avoidance trainer from Wenatchee will be holding classes in Kennewick to train dogs to avoid rattlesnakes.

The training uses a live rattlesnake in a strike proof cage and a remote training collar for the dog. When the curious dog investigates the snake up-close and gets the full scent, a shock is administered through the collar.  The dog then associates this pain with the sight and smell of rattlesnake and will avoid them forever.  The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued a permit to trainer, Darel Ansley to retain a live rattlesnake for this training.

On Saturday June 9th a class will be offered in Kennewick to train dogs to detect and avoid rattlesnakes.  Dog owners in Eastern Washington are advised to protect their pets from rattlesnake bites with this training.
