Man in court after trying to take an officer's weapon
YAKIMA, Wash.-- A man accused of trying to wrestle a gun away from a Yakima police officer made his first appearance in court Monday.
Early Saturday morning, Yakima police stopped a car on the 1,000 block of South Sixth Street.
Jorge Medina was one of the passengers inside and several times attempted to reach for a gun he had with him.
After being taken from the car, police say Medina tried to grab the officer's sidearm.
"Desperate people will go to desperate means to get away, especially when you're dealing with a hardcore criminal that's looking at going to prison for many years. And certainly this was a case with this individual," said Capt. Rod Light with YPD.
Medina is facing three counts of First Degree Attempted Murder as well as several other charges.
