$1 Gallon Challenge

MESA, Wash.- People in Mesa are getting a great deal on the price of milk this month, thanks to a dairy farm supporting a local grocery store and a youth program.

The dairy is providing JC's Mesa Grocery & Deli with gallons of milk at a dollar off the regular price.

Owner of Coulee Flats Dairy Case VanderMeulen says it's a way of celebrating dairy month, and supporting the town's only grocery store.

"Since it's the only grocery store in town it's obviously a big lifeline for all of us here in the community to make sure we can get things local and we don't have to drive for 10 to 15 minutes to get stuff somewhere else."

Last year the dairy and the grocery store partnered up and sold over 1240 gallons.

This year they hope to sell even more, because VanderMeulen will donate a dollar for each jug sold to the Columbia Basin Junior Livestock Show.

"Its businesses helping other businesses be successful. And in this case, its businesses providing support for the youth of the Columbia Basin," says Lauren Booker of the Columbia Basin Junior Livestock Show.

"It's a win win win, because not only do our customers win, but our junior livestock students, and the whole community. So it's something. It's not only win win, it's win win win," says JC's Mesa Grocery & Deli Patti Alvarado.

The deal goes for the whole month of June, and VanderMeulen says he hopes other businesses will match his dollars donated to the Columbia Basin Junior Livestock Show.
