Teens likely charged with attempted murder after chase
YAKIMA, Wash.-- Two Yakima teenagers are in jail after police say they stole a car and shot at another vehicle.
At around seven Tuesday morning, officers say the teens stole a woman's car that was warming up on the 300 block of North Third Avenue.
Her boyfriend hopped in his own car and drove after them. Police say the teens shot at the boyfriend. Yakima Police and Sheriff's Deputies joined the chase.
The teens crashed near the intersection of 4th Street and Erickson Lane, and started running.
Police arrested the driver nearby and called in a K-9 unit to find the other suspect. Barge-Lincoln Elementary School went on lock down until he was found about an hour later.
Police say the suspects are only 13 and 15 years old.
"We're finding as these kids get more involved with gangs at a younger age and are becoming more involved with gangs... gangs and guns go together unfortunately... And we're finding younger kids are carrying weapons and they're not afraid to use them," says Yakima Police Captain Rod Light.
Police say both suspects will likely be charged with attempted murder, auto theft, and felon in possession of a firearm.
