Gilbert Elementary School kids compete in "Minute to Fitness"

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Subway shops in Yakima put kids at Gilbert Elementary School through several fitness challenges today.

It's part of the store's "Minute to Fitness" campaign to fight childhood obesity. Shops in the Tri-Cities held a similar event a few days ago. Mayor Micah Cawley led the presentation. Students faced off in activities like football and hula-hoops. Cawley says with Yakima rated the 11th most obese city in the US, it's essential to keep kids active.

"It's kind of the thing where you've gotta start with the youth and really impress eating right and trying different ways of exercise and, you know, as the worlds changing, Yakima wants to get off that list," says Cawley.

Cawley says he hopes students can take these activities and use them to stay in shape over the summer.
