PASCO, Wash.-- U.S. Marine Corps. General James Mattis returned to the Tri-Cities Friday as a guest speaker for the Columbia Basin Badger Club.
Over one hundred fifty people came out to hear General Mattis speak at the Red Lion Hotel in Pasco. He wanted to give the audience an update on what our military is doing overseas.
General Mattis serves as the commander for the U.S. Central Command.
It's one of ten combatant commands in the U.S. military and covers the central area of the globe. The area includes Afghanistan and a total of twenty countries.
General Mattis wanted to tell people about the military's work in that region in the war against terrorism.
"I think it's just important that we make certain that we share with all the people exactly what we're doing and also that I do some listening while I'm here. Get what's on their minds," says Mattis.
General Mattis is from Richland and says he enjoys coming home to speak with people in the Tri-Cities. After his speech the general took questions from the audience.
